Tree Contest Finalists

Trees for Augusta, Inc., with the assistance of Dwain Shaw of the Augusta Photo Festival, held its first photo competition during the spring and summer of 2016. Over 50 entries were submitted in the categories of (1) Significant Trees and (2) Tree plantings by Trees for Augusta, Inc..

The winning photographs for the competition were displayed at Westebou Gallery (the first event ever in the new gallery at 1129 Broad Street), during the week of August 31st – September 4th. An opening reception took place on Friday, August 31st with over 100 attendees.

Before the presentation of awards, Campbell Vaughn, a local landscape contractor, spoke about Trees for Augusta’s Champion and Notable Tree Registry. Trees for Augusta, Inc. is looking for nominations in both categories. The Champion tree category is defined as the largest tree of its kind in Richmond County. The Notable Tree category is defined as any tree which, because of its size, species, or visibility helps define a neighborhood. All trees in the registry will be shown on www.treesforaugusta.org.

There were 3 winning photographs in each category and a Best of Show award. These 7 photos will be auctioned at the Trees for Augusta annual party on March 10th, 2016 at the home of Wyck and Shell Knox.
