Welcome

Trees for Augusta, Inc. was incorporated by the State of GA and received its 501 c (3) not-for-profit status from the IRS in April, 2009. The organizations plans to plant street trees and promote interest in trees and their history in Augusta-Richmond County, GA.

These tree-planting activities will be focused on street trees along public rights of way. Trees for Augusta, Inc. will also maintain a website (TreesforAugusta.org) highlighting these interests. There will be no paid staff.

In February, 2010, Trees for Augusta, Inc. completed its first planting project – planting 7 Chinese Pastiche and 10 Crape Myrtles along the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Jones Street. This will continue a planting begun in the early 1980’s at this site.

In February, 2011, Trees for Augusta, Inc. planted 18 Sugar Maples (“Sandersville) in the median of Henry Street. Fall, 2011 plans include planting 10 new Dogwoods, pruning exisitng Dogwoods and mulching all trees.

In February, 2013, Trees for Augusta, Inc. planted 30 gingkos along Battle Row.

In  late 2013 and early 2014, Trees for Augusta, Inc. plans to contract for a professional tree inventory of Downtown and Harrisburg.

Also, the organization plans to compile a list of noble and heritage trees in the area for posting on the website, establish a memorial tree program, and plan a walking tour of specimen trees.

Trees for Augusta, Inc. plans to work cooperatively with Augusta-Richmond County and its Tree Commission.
